Dressing for the Wedding

We've had a few people asking if we have a dress code for the wedding. We don't! Mick & I will be somewhat dressed up but not all-out fancy. A dressy night out will be about the average level of dressiness - but please where what feels good to you!!!

About gifts

Hello all,

quick gift update.

First, gifts are optional! We appreciate your presence and involvement with our wedding and are happy that we have friends who are excited that we're getting married.

If you are interested in giving us a gift, you have a few options (more may be added). We have a list at the side of the blog of gifts we'd love second hand. We are also registered at the Bay and Home Outfitters (see list links at the right). You sign on one site and then click on one of the two registries.

Accommodations

We're looking into accommodation options for our guests. One option is a Bed & Breakfast run by Kamilla's friends (http://bbcanada.com/6506.html) - see links list on the right side. Called Mission Creek B&B, it's a beautiful old home with 4 bedrooms.

The rates (all on the website) are around $60 to $88 per room; we can also reserve the whole house (2 nights minimum) for $250 total plus tax. Please have a look at the website and let us know if you'd be interested in staying there Friday and Saturday nights and we can coordinate to reserve the whole house.

We listed a few items on there that we would love to get second hand if possible:

-crock pot

and probably others to be added. Please do feel free to pass on to us your not-being-used versions of these - just email Kamilla's sister (bahiyyih@gmail.com) and we'll take those items off the gift registry. We've already taken a few items off!

Second Hand Gifts

-well-functioning old rotary dial phone (2 of them!). The kind that doesn't use electricity and has the cord attached
-bread maker - with an unscratched bread tin
-Spanish language-learning CDs (not cassette tapes)

-CDs of salsa/ latin music
-6 qt. crock pot - with a good insert
-loaf pan (for baking banana bread)

About the wedding

A number of people have started asking us about gifts, so I thought I'd say a few words. First, Mick & I want all our friends to know that you don't need to give us gifts. Your good wishes, support and encouragement are more important.

If you would like to give us a gift, we will be registering for some items at some stores (we'll put up information here when we decide). Between us, we have a lot of things for the kitchen and house in general, so we'll look for a few items we don't have. And especially for those who will be helping with many aspects of the wedding - set-up, food, music and others - please consider that your gift to us.

There are some things that we could use that we just don't want people to buy new. We suspect that one of our guests has some of these items lying unused around the house and would be happy to pass it on to us. Or maybe one of you is a great second-hand shopper and can track one of these items down for us. If you do, PLEASE email my sister (bahiyyih@gmail.com) and she'll take the item off of this list to avoid duplication problems.

Dishes

Mick & I were out second hand shopping tonight and we came again to the question of dishes. Though we've got lots of kitchen stuff between us, one thing we lack is a good, complete set of dishes. It's something I'd/ we'd really like. But when we've looked at new sets, we're a bit appalled at the cost. $100 for a 5-piece place setting? And we don't even like the patterns! Plus, it feels like an extravagant use of the earth's resources to buy a new set when there are so many already-made beautiful used dishes out there.

So we've figured out what we want.
-a used of dishes for 12 place settings
-5-piece place settings (dinner plate, soup bowl, bread plate, cup & saucer)
-extra pieces with it: cream & sugar set, serving bowls, teapot
-made in England, or possibly Germany
-an older, traditional style - something lightly floral possibly, edged in gold or silver maybe, with a pretty but not overwhelming pattern
-under $100 for the set

We saw a couple patterns we really liked today, but the sets were quite small so we decided to wait and see what we can find. We'll post some pictures of what we're looking for. If you have ideas, please let us know!
